Floating With You

Friday night at our house isn't usually a fancy reservation or a big night on the town. More often, it's a Costco run together. (Because I absolutely can't stand going when it's busy) We start with a shopping list, find something good for dinner, and somehow end up debating whether we need one more bottle in the cart. That's our kind of date night, and I wouldn't trade it.

The other half of the song comes from our weekends at home. After a week of work, there's something pretty wonderful about tossing a couple of floats into the pool, turning on country and reggae, and realizing we don't need to be anywhere else. Sometimes there's a trip on the calendar, sometimes it's just our own backyard. The feeling is the same.

I wanted the chorus to sound like that exact moment when you look across the water at the person you love and think, 'Shit, woman, look at this view.' Not just the scenery. Her. The life we've made. The fact that a perfectly ordinary Friday can feel like a vacation when we're together.

That's why the song wanders from Costco to pool floats to places like Mexico and Bora Bora. The destinations change, but the point doesn't: every place gets better floating next to her.
